MITMAP Mag: Quarantined | Halston Dare

Updated: May 20, 2020

Tell us a little bit about Halston Dare?

I am a singer/songwriter born and raised in Houston, Texas. I grew up playing basketball, loving sports, and thought I was going to pursue sports in college when I got older but Music said “no!” I have an off-road Jeep Wrangler named Zeus, my favorite food is fried chicken tenders, and the only thing I ever do is hang out with my friends!

Tell us about the project you're in?

Right now I am just focusing on writing new music to release in the future and of course the recent debut of my new single “Replace You!”

We all have been going insane with this quarantine, how are you dealing with insanity?

Even though it is very tragic as to what is happening right now, it has not affected me that much because I am still able to do what I love at home which I already do at home. I decided to quarantine with my two best friends so that we would all keep each other sane. I will say I am definitely missing not being able to go out to restaurants and the gym.

In today's global change, how did it impact you as an artist?

It definitely made me feel a little more cooped up and vulnerable because I wasn’t able to go to the recording studio or my normal writing sessions out in LA. I am staying home, here in Houston, and writing from my in-home studio.

What are the things that you did before that Do you kinda miss?

I miss being able to go to the gym and work out, and I definitely miss going out on dates, to restaurants. I definitely thrive on entertaining myself by going outside.

What are some new things that you are currently, working on?

Currently, I am working on a music video for “Replace You.” I am really excited and can’t wait to share teasers to my fans.

What is "Self-Quarantine" looking for you?

Staying home! Taking walks outside swimming, tanning, at-home workouts, and lots of movie marathons.

How did that impact your day-to-day?

It didn’t really impact me that much; I’m already A homebody kind of person.

What are some of the things you discovered that you like doing?

LOL this is going to sound horrible but I really didn’t discover anything new other than learning to be alone, enjoying the time that I’m spending right now and learning to appreciate nature more.

Binging, can you recommend the shows that you're into?

I have been binge-watching Tiger King, New Girl, Say Yes to the Dress, and re-watching Stranger Things, and Gordon Ramsay.

What about Music, who do you listen to?

I listen to all types of music but I’ve been listening to more country music than I have popped. My two most played songs right now are “Country Road” by John Denver, and “Amarillo by Morning” by George Strait.

After all, this chaos is over and done with, what are you going to do first?

It’s kind of funny, the stay at home order ended a couple of days ago in Texas and I still have not gone inside to restaurants or anywhere. I think I’m still a little scared. But once I feel comfortable I think I’m going to go to the beach in Galveston and to Papa’s Burgers, my favorite restaurant here in Houston.

I feel like we are all in a state of slow recovery from this, what will change from day to day moving forward?

I don’t know. I think it’s going to be different for everyone. I’m choosing to not see it is such a dramatic change to my life, and I’m just trying to see it as we don’t get to go out that much and see people, but my life doesn’t stop here. I’m trying to be positive. I think the only thing that’s going to change is that I definitely appreciate nature more and when I see my friends next I’m definitely going to cherish that time a whole lot more than I normally would.

It was really awesome doing this unique interview with you, anything you want to mention for the viewers?

My new single “Replace You” just released and I will be coming up with a music video soon! You can follow me on all social media @HalstonDare!
